Impression of Juliet

From Act 2 of Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, Juliet is portrayed as a young lady who is inexperienced in love and views love as her priority. The fact that she asks Romeo to plan on their “marriage” right after they meet implies that she has not had a lot of experience in love, because people don’t normally get married so quickly, even if they fall in love at first sight (2.2.151). Deciding on whether a person is the right lover takes a lot of time, but Juliet, without hesitation, rushes their wedding, and asks Romeo to “send [her] word tomorrow” when he sneaks into her garden on the first night they met (2.2.151).

Furthermore, when the Nurse is calling Juliet, Juliet keeps her waiting by answering briefly with “by and by, I come” while continuing her conversations with Romeo (2.2.160). Even though the Nurse is just like Juliet’s mother, Juliet loses all respect to her when she talks to Romeo, which emphasizes on how attached Juliet is to her love, and how she makes him her first priority. In addition, even though Juliet knows that marrying Romeo would bring a lot of trouble or even death for them, she is willing to risk her life to be with her “dear love”, and this suggests that Juliet believes her true love is worth more than her own life (2.2.143).
